Please don’t start zato as root.

This is not the correct way and will eventually lead to problems. Don’t
do it. This is not recommended, it is in fact discouraged.

What you deal with now is not related to Zato at all. This is how Linux
works.

For historical reasons regular users are not allowed to bind to ports
below 1024.

But using root is not the correct solution - you need to learn more
about the alternatives listed here on ServerFault:

This will let you learn more about Linux and you will find the
information useful in other situations as well, Zato or not.

Again - you will hit upon problems sooner or later if you use root. Most
likely - sooner.
